LiftMaster or Viking? Different jobs.

How the two operator lines we install most often compare, and which one we put on which gate.

LiftMaster and Viking are both serious operators, and we are authorized to install and service both. They overlap in the middle but pull in different directions: LiftMaster dominates residential with the LA series and myQ, and Viking is built around high-cycle commercial duty.

Here is how we choose between them.

Viking

What we install where

Residential swing gates up to a typical driveway width: LiftMaster LA400 or LA500. Estate gates and heavy ornamental iron: LiftMaster CSW200 or Viking, depending on weight and cycles. Community and commercial slide gates: Viking or LiftMaster commercial slide, sized to the cycle count. Both work with CellGate, DoorKing, keypads, and cameras.

Service and parts

We keep common LiftMaster and Viking parts on the truck. LiftMaster's residential parts are the easiest to source in Houston, which matters for repair speed on older units. Viking commercial parts are readily available through our distributors.

Frequently asked questions

Which lasts longer?+

Matched to the right gate, both last many years. A residential LiftMaster on a commercial gate wears out early; a Viking on a light residential gate is overkill but fine.

Does Viking have an app?+

Viking focuses on the operator; app control usually comes from the access controller you pair with it, such as CellGate or myQ-compatible accessories.

Which is better for a heavy iron gate?+

Either, in the right model. We size by leaf weight and length. Heavy dual swings often get LiftMaster CSW200 or a Viking commercial unit.

Can I replace my old Apollo or Elite with a LiftMaster?+

Yes. Most swing arm replacements reuse the posts and access devices. We do these regularly.

Do you install both?+

Yes. We are authorized to install and service the full LiftMaster and Viking lineups.
