Gate Problems & Fixes — Houston

Gate remote not working. Battery, programming, or receiver.

Three things cause nearly every dead remote. Here is how to tell them apart.

When a remote stops opening the gate, it is the battery, the programming, or the receiver in the operator. The first two you can often handle yourself. The third is a service call.

Work through these in order. If the remotes all died at once, skip to the receiver section and call (346) 872-8671.

One remote stopped working

If other remotes or the keypad still work, the problem is that remote.

All remotes stopped working

If the keypad or a hardwired button still opens the gate but no remote does, the receiver is the problem.

Remote works only up close

Short range means a weak battery, a damaged antenna, or interference. Metal enclosures around the operator and LED lighting near the receiver both cut range. We relocate the antenna or add an external one.

Time to stop using remotes

If you are on your third lost remote, a keypad or a phone-based system is cheaper and easier. Everyone gets their own code or app credential, and nothing gets lost in a car.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reprogram my gate remote?+

Press the learn button on the operator or receiver, then press the remote button within about 30 seconds. The exact steps vary by brand; we can walk you through it on the phone.

Why do all my remotes stop working at once?+

The receiver in the operator has failed or lost its memory, usually after a storm. Keypads and buttons still work because they are wired.

Can you add more remotes?+

Yes. We program additional remotes on the service call and carry replacements for major brands.

My remote works at the gate but not from the street.+

Weak battery, damaged antenna, or interference. New battery first, then call us to check the antenna.

Can I use one remote for my gate and garage?+

Often yes, with a multi-button remote programmed to both, if both use compatible rolling-code receivers.
