DoorKing telephone entry systems are everywhere in Houston: the 1812 at gated homes and small properties, the 1802 at mid-size communities, and the 1830 series at large multifamily and commercial entries. Most were installed on a landline, and as those lines disappear, a lot of them have stopped working.
We install, program, repair, and replace the full DoorKing line, including moving existing systems to cellular.
Which model is which
- ✓1812: residential and small-property entry that uses the home's phone line, so the house phone answers the gate.
- ✓1802: standalone telephone entry with a directory for small to mid-size communities and commercial properties.
- ✓1830 series: large-capacity directory, multi-property management, and integration with readers and controllers for big communities.
Common repairs
- ✓Unit will not dial: the landline was cancelled or the copper failed. We convert to cellular.
- ✓Directory lost after a power event: we restore or rebuild it and set up remote management.
- ✓Keypad or display dead from water intrusion.
- ✓Board damage from lightning.
- ✓Gate relay not firing: the entry works but the gate does not open.
- ✓Residents cannot hear or be heard: speaker and microphone replacement.
Converting to cellular
A DoorKing on a dead landline can be converted with a cellular module or replaced with a cellular head unit from DoorKing or CellGate on the same pedestal. We migrate the directory, keep the gate wiring, and set up browser-based management so the property team updates residents without a service call.
New installs and programming
For new communities and commercial entries we install the right DoorKing model with readers, loops, photo-eyes, and cameras, program the directory and schedules, and train the property manager on the software.
Frequently asked questions
Our DoorKing stopped calling residents. What happened?+
Almost always the phone line. Carriers are retiring copper lines. We convert the unit to cellular or replace it with a cellular model.
Can you program our DoorKing remotely?+
Once it is on cellular or internet with DoorKing's software, yes. Older landline units require an on-site visit.
Can we keep our pedestal and wiring?+
Usually. We reuse the pedestal and gate wiring when they are sound and swap the head unit.
Do you service DoorKing systems you did not install?+
Yes. Most of our DoorKing work is on existing systems.
Should we replace our DoorKing with CellGate?+
Sometimes. For large directories and existing DoorKing hardware, staying with DoorKing on cellular is often best. We quote both.
